A surface-first approach

The single most important thing about cleaning stone and masonry is not to damage it. These surfaces are porous and often historic, so an over-aggressive approach — too much pressure, or the wrong chemical — can pit the stone, strip a finish or cause lasting harm. Our teams assess each surface first and choose from a full range of professional systems accordingly:

• Hot-water and steam systems (such as DOFF and ThermaTech) that clean using heat and gentle, low pressure — ideal for delicate and heritage stone.
• Poultices and specialist treatments that draw staining, soot and biological growth out of porous stone.
• Soft washing for surfaces where high pressure would cause damage, tackling algae and lichen at the source.
• Controlled pressure washing at the correct pressure for robust masonry, paving and hardstanding.

Heritage and listed buildings

Heritage and listed masonry deserves particular care. Historic stone is valuable, often protected, and needs to breathe, so it can't simply be blasted clean without risking permanent damage or falling foul of conservation requirements. We work sympathetically to conservation good practice, using the gentlest effective methods and assessing the stone type and condition before we start. Because deeply penetrated staining on porous stone can occasionally leave a faint mark, we're always upfront about the result that's realistically achievable.
