The exterior is part of the patient experience

Cleanliness inside a healthcare building is measured, audited and taken extremely seriously. Outside, it is often nobody's specific job, which is how a main entrance ends up with tags on the brickwork and fouling down the canopy while the reception two metres away is immaculate. Patients do not separate the two. Feedback and inspection commentary regularly picks up the approach and the car park alongside the clinical areas.

There is a safety dimension too. Poorly maintained external areas — slippery moss on a path to an entrance, an underpass or car park stairwell nobody wants to use after dark — create genuine risk for people who may already be unsteady or unwell. Keeping those routes clean is a patient safety measure as much as a presentational one.

Working on a site that never closes

Healthcare sites do not have a quiet period in the way a school or an office does. Ambulances arrive at four in the morning, visiting hours fill the car parks, and there is always a route that cannot be blocked. So we work in sections rather than closing an area, agree in advance which access points must stay clear, and manage water and run-off carefully — a wet, soapy surface across an accessible route is an obvious hazard for people who may be on crutches or using a wheelchair.

What we clean on healthcare sites

The work usually concentrates on the areas patients and visitors actually move through:

• Graffiti removal from entrances, stairwells, bin stores, service yards and boundary walls.
• Car parks and stairwells washed down, including the decks and bays where staining is heaviest.
• Bird fouling removal from canopies, entrance walkways and ledges, with the surface sanitised afterwards.

Compliance, documentation and discretion

We are fully insured, hold CHAS accreditation, and provide site-specific RAMS covering chemical use, water management and access control before we attend. DBS-checked operatives are available where the setting makes that appropriate. Dated before-and-after photographs are supplied on completion for estates records and inspection evidence.

Discretion matters as well. Offensive content at a public entrance is prioritised, and our operatives are used to working quietly around people who are unwell or distressed rather than treating the site as an ordinary commercial job.
